06/29/2018
The 2nd Annual National Association of Law Student Affairs Professionals (NALSAP) conference took place June 28-30, 2018, at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law on the IUPUI Campus. Over two hundred student affairs professionals from law schools around the United States and Canada attended the two and a half day conference in Indianapolis.
Johnny D. Pryor, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at IU McKinney, is one of the founding members of the organization, which was formed in 2016, and he currently serves as its president.
Dean Pryor said, “It has been the honor of my career to see the fruit of a dinner conversation among four colleagues about an idea to fill a need grow into a thriving national organization of 435 members, representing 104 law schools, in less than 2 ½ years. This experiences reminds me daily about the possibilities and strength of a small group working together on a common goal, vision, and purpose.”
Dean Pryor has served in various roles at academic institutions providing leadership for programs designed to assist undergraduates interested in law school and other graduate programs at Butler University as well as Dartmouth College. He has advised hundreds of students from diverse backgrounds helping them gain admission to some of the most selective law and graduate programs. In addition, he served as an adjunct instructor at Wittenberg University where he taught both law and literature, as well as critical reasoning and the law. He is also a past treasurer of the American Mock Trial Association, and former at-large board member of the Northeast Association of Pre-Law Advisors. In the Indianapolis community, he has served as a steering committee member of the Indianapolis Public School’s Magnet High School for Law and Public Policy (formerly Shortridge High School, now Arsenal Technical High School in downtown Indianapolis). He recently completed Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series (Class XLII) and he was recently elected by his class to the Advisory Council for the program. In addition, Dean Pryor served on the executive committee of the American Association of Law Schools’ Section on Student Services.
NALSAP serves as the professional home for those who support law students by providing leadership, professional development, and student affairs resources. The organization’s mission is to provide its members with information about law student affairs best practices, resources for student programming, opportunities for professional growth, and the support of a community of like-minded individuals.
