07/26/2018
Li Xiaoming, Associate Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University School of Law and a former visiting scholar and professor at IU McKinney, received the 13th Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievements Award from the Shaanxi Provincial Government. The presentation was made in May 2018.
Professor Li was a visiting scholar at IU McKinney from July 2015 to July 2016. She returned to serve as a visiting professor in Fall 2017 when she taught a course on intellectual property law in China.
The Outstanding Achievements Award is conferred every other year to recognize meritorious achievements in philosophy and social sciences by authors who work in Shaanxi Province. Award winners are selected by a jury comprised of directors and senior scholars, which evaluates scholarly achievement according to academic value and pragmatic application.
Professor Li received the award for leading a team of four researchers in a study of the relationship between technological innovation and intellectual property protection, with special focus on China’s One Belt—One Road Initiative and on recent decisions by Chinese courts in IP cases. Also part of the research team were Professors Quan Yanmin, LL.M. '04 and Zhang Xiaohao. Professor Quan was a visiting scholar in 2014. Professor Zhang will be a visiting scholar at IU McKinney in 2019.
The Outstanding Achievements Award is a significant accomplishment for Professor Li as the award ranks in importance only behind the Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievements Award conferred by China’s Ministry of Education.
Commenting on the award, Professor Li said she is very proud of the accomplishment as it indicates her progress as a legal scholar. She also said that she sincerely appreciates the opportunities IU McKinney provided her that enabled her to pursue her scholarly endeavors.
