Professor Dutton Attends International Humanitarian Dialogs
09/04/2018
IU McKinney Law Professor Yvonne Dutton participated in the International Humanitarian Law Dialogs at the Chautauqua Institution, a renowned arts and cultural community in Chautauqua, New York on August 26-28.
For more than a decade, the IHL Dialogs has brought together international prosecutors, ambassadors, diplomats, human rights leaders, and legal scholars from around the world to explore the importance of international humanitarian law, discuss its current implementation, and promote its expansion across the globe. Case Western Reserve University School of Law and The Syracuse University School of Law host the event.
The theme of the IHL Dialogs, “Is the Justice We Seek the Justice They Want?” included a keynote address by Stephen Rapp, a Distinguished Fellow at The Hague Institute for Global Justice and a Global Prevention Fellow at the Simon-Skjodt Center for the Prevention of Genocide, breakout sessions on justice for child soldiers and victims of war crimes, and presentations by scholars and professionals in the field of international humanitarian law.
The annual event is held near Jamestown, New York, the home of Justice Robert Jackson, Chief United States Prosecutor at the Nuremburg Trials, noted Professor Dutton (above, left, with Michael Struett, associate professor of political science in the School of Public and International Affairs at North Carolina State University).
