09/11/2018
Students and faculty from FAESA—Centro Universitario in in Vitória, Brazil, spent a week at IU McKinney for an intensive program on American law.
The group arrived September 1 and departed Indianapolis on September 8. Classroom instruction is supplemented with law-related field trips. The group took in a Naturalization Ceremony in the courtroom of U.S. District Court Judge William Lawrence, '73, and visited with him in his judicial chambers, as in the photo at left.
The group also met with Indiana Senators Phil Boots and Mike Delph, '10, on the floor of the Indiana Senate. Boots and Delph talked about the organization and operation of the Senate, Indiana government in general, and responded to the group's questions, seen in the photo at right.
Participants also enjoyed seeing the sights around the metropolitan area, such as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and television station WRTV. At RTV6, the group conducted a mock interview, took a tour of the station's control room, and went on set during a live broadcast of the evening news.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the program, which was founded by Professor Tom Wilson.
The group was led by Dean Otoni, and Professor Stella Emery Santana, who is in her second year as a visiting professor at IU McKinney.
