Emily Benfer, '05, has received the 2010 American Public Health Association's David P. Rall Award for Advocacy. She was given the honor for her lead poisoning prevention work. Benfer was the director of the Health Justice Project at Loyola University Chicago School of Law and Loyola University School of Medicine's Department of Public Health, before moving to Columbia Law School at the beginning of the 2018-2019 academic year, where she runs the Health Justice Advocacy Clinic. The Rall Award is presented to individuals at mid-career who have advanced prevention through policy change. The honor was last given to Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha who uncovered the crisis in Flint, Michigan, in 2016.
