10/23/2018
Ahmed Altawyan, S.J.D. ’17, recently published a book, titled International Commercial Arbitration in Saudi Arabia. In the book, Altawyan analyzes and compares the Saudi Arbitration Law of 2012 with international arbitration rules and instruments. He also points out the consequences arising from the application of Saudi law to international arbitration agreements and international commercial contracts. The work is available on Amazon.com.
Altawyan received his S.J.D. degree following a successful defense of his dissertation, titled "Reinforcing Saudi Commercial Arbitration Law in the Global Community: Challenges and Possible Modernization." He now serves as an assistant professor of Law at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud University in Saudi Arabia. He is the Honorary Fellow of International Islamic Centre for Reconciliation and Arbitration, and works as a member of the Appeal Committee of Tax Conflict and Dispute in Saudi Arabia.
Altawyan appreciates what he gained as a student at IU McKinney. "The law school has a fantastic education environment to gain the academic and practical skills together and to get out in the real world while you are still a student," he said. "The pro bono program put me in line with my career goals, not just to understand the law, but to know how to put it to work and then to be ready to practice."
