Student and Head of Collection Services at Lilly Law Library Head to Guantanamo for Hearings
01/07/2019
IU McKinney 2L Garrett Welch and Head of Collection Services at the Ruth Lilly Law Library Larissa Sullivant departed Andrews Air Force Base on January 6 on their way to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The two will take part in the Military Commission Observation Project (MCOP). This marks the first time that two people from IU McKinney have taken part in the project at Guantanamo Bay at the same time.
The Pentagon granted the IU McKinney project permission to send IU McKinney Affiliates -- students, faculty, staff, and graduates -- to Guantanamo Bay to view proceedings live and to Ft. Meade to view via secure video feed.
In the photo, Sullivant, left, and Welch are preparing to depart for Cuba.
Participation in MCOP is open to all IU McKinney students, faculty, staff, and alumni. To learn more, visit the Program in International Human Rights Law web page, and visit the blog, The Gitmo Observer.
