Professor Boyne Attends Mid-Year Retreat
01/11/2019
IU McKinney Law Professor Shawn Boyne, who is participating in the year-long American Council on Education Fellows Program, is attending the fellows’ mid-year retreat January 10-14 in Tucson, Arizona.
During the working retreat, fellows are participating in hands-on exercises in university budgeting, learning best practices in diversity and inclusion efforts, and understanding the digital transformation facing higher education.
“I was surprised to learn that 30 % of graduate students in the United States currently receive their instruction completely online due to rising tuition costs and the need of many students to work full-time,” said Boyne (in photo, above, with ACE President Ted Mitchell at the retreat).
In addition to these training exercises, teams of fellows are giving presentations to the leadership of Virginia Commonwealth University on a variety of consulting projects. Boyne is working on a team that is advising VCU on their transition to a new budgeting system designed to spur innovation.
“I am very grateful for Dean Klein’s support, as well as the support of IUPUI Provost Kathlyn Johnson, for allowing me to participate in the program,” Boyne said
Boyne recently returned from spending the fall semester at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia where she participated in senior leadership meetings and was mentored by President Jonathan Alger and Provost Heather Coltman.
Professor Boyne is Senior Mosaic Faculty Fellow, Co-Director JD Program Evaluation, and Chair of the Global Crisis Leadership Forum. A former senior trial prosecutor for the state of New Mexico, where she specialized in the prosecution of child sexual abuse and domestic violence cases, Professor Boyne teaches courses in cybercrime, criminal law, criminal procedure, and national security law.
