03/26/2019
Chasity Thompson, interim Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law, was honored as an Outstanding IUPUI Woman Leader in the veteran staff category for IUPUI’s 2019 Women's History Month Leadership Awards reception on March 26.
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of IUPUI, the selection committee chose a total of eight deserving women in this category for their dedication, service, and commitment to the campus and community, according to the event organizers.
“Dean Thompson is very deserving of this leadership award,” said Andrew R. Klein, Dean and Paul E. Beam Professor of Law. “We are proud and delighted that she is being recognized by the wider campus community for her remarkable work at the law school.”
Dean Thompson was named interim Assistant Dean for Student Affairs in 2018 after serving as Assistant Dean for the Office of Professional Development. She previously served as director and the associate director for the office.
She graduated magna cum laude from Alabama State University with degrees in English and Business Administration. She earned a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, where she actively participated in and chaired numerous school, legal and community functions. Also, she is pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Indiana University.
Following law school, Thompson served for two years as a judicial clerk to Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard of the Indiana Supreme Court. Licensed to practice law as a member of the Indiana Bar, Thompson was named as one of the 2007 "Up and Coming" lawyers for the Leadership in Law series by the Indiana Lawyer. In addition to participating in numerous community initiatives, she is a 2006 and 2017 recipient of the Raab Emison Award for her commitment to diversity in the legal profession.
“I am honored to be one of the women recognized in this category, especially during a time when the university is celebrating its 50th anniversary and during Women's History month” Dean Thompson said. "Women have a longstanding history of service, advocacy, and resilience. I am excited celebrate contributions that women have made and continue to make on this campus and in our society. It is important to highlight and model positive civic and social engagement. I hope to continue to support positive programs and foster opportunities to help our school, campus and community continue to thrive.”
