IU McKinney Rated 'A-plus' in International Jurist 'Best LL.M. Programs'
05/03/2019
IU McKinney was rated an A+ in the Law School Experience category, and the Value category in the International Jurist's 2019 "Best LL.M. Programs." The Master of Laws program also was mentioned in the Career category for the relationship IU McKinney has with the World Trade Center Indianapolis, which provides pro bono opportunities for LL.M. students.
The Law School Experience category considers whether LL.M. students can participate in law journals, have access to mentors, take classes with U.S. students, receive practical training, and have the ability to take part in off-campus excursions. Miki Pike Hamstra, Director of Graduate Programs at IU McKinney, talked about the law school's alumni hosting international students in their homes for Thanksgiving so they can take part in a traditional American holiday.
IU McKinney received another A+ in the Value category, where factors such as the percentage of students receiving a scholarship, median scholarship, tuition, and the one-year room and board cost were factors.
The law school was mentioned in the Career category, noting IU McKinney's partnership with the World Trade Center Indianapolis (WTC Indy). It's the only program of its kind in the United States, and LL.M. students receive real world experience by working with the center on a pro bono basis. Lin Zhu, LL.M. '17, worked with WTC Indy during law school and now works at the World Trade Center Shanghai.
The article also quotes Professor George Edwards, whos' book, LL.M. Roadmap: An International Student's Guide to U.S. Law School Programs, was published in 2012.
