05/20/2019
IU McKinney students Macie Linn Ellis and Tiffany Wire-Costley, and Carey York, '07, and Robert Hill, '82, talked about the challenges of careers in public defense for a story on The Statehouse File.
The story details the challenges of pursuing a career in public defense work. Ellis is a dual-degree student, who also is pursuing a degree in social work. Wire-Costley is interested in working as a public defender, but is concerned the job won't pay well. York had worked as a public defender before starting his own firm. Hill, the Chief Public Defender for Marion County, talked about the need to show respect for the profession and the many sacrifices made by public attorneys to serve their clients. In the photo from left are Ellis and Wire-Costley.
