Hall Center Faculty Join Health Law Professors in Chicago

IU McKinney School of Law had a strong presence at the 42nd annual Health Law Professors Conference, the preeminent gathering of health law faculty sponsored by the American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics & Loyola University Chicago School of Law. 
Faculty presenting at the June 5-9 conference included:
- Ross Silverman, Professor of Public Health and Law and Professor of Health Policy and Management at the IU Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI, presented “Professional Norms and Public Health Systems: Regulating Vaccination-Related Clinical” for a panel on “Getting Vaccines Right: Issues in Policy and Practice.”
- Adjunct Professor Heather A. McCabe, ’03, moderated a panel on “Legal Issues in Health for LGBTQ Individuals.”
- Professor Robert Katz presented “Rationing Healthcare in the Shadow of the Eighth Amendment: Lessons from Hepatitis C Inmate Litigation” for a public health panel.
- Seema Mohapatra, Associate Professor of Law and Dean’s Fellow, presented “Feminist Judgements: Rewritten Health Law Opinions” for a panel on “Feminist Perspectives on Health Law and Bioethics.”
- Visiting Professor Aila Hoss presented “Federal Indian Law as a Structural Determinant of Health” for a panel on social determinants of health.
- Professor Nicolas Terry, Executive Director of the Hall Center for Law and Health, moderated a panel on “Perspectives on the Opioid Crisis,” and presented “Healthcare as a Structural Determinant of the Opioid Crisis.
Also on the list of presenters was Daniel Orenstein, Postdoctoral Fellow at University of California, San Francisco, who presented a drug policy paper, “Grassroots of Grass: Cannabis Legalization Ballot Initiative Campaign Contributions and Outcomes.” He will join the IU McKinney faculty as a visiting professor in August 2019.
