Judge William Lawrence, '73, has retired from serving for 17 years on the bench in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.
Judge Lawrence was the first magistrate judge in the Southern District to be elevated to the bench. He began his judicial career as the Marion Circuit Court judge in 1996, and became a magistrate judge in the Southern District in 2002. He had dreams of playing professional baseball, and attended Louisiana State University on a baseball scholarship, but couldn't connect his bat with the curve balls that came his way. A story about his career and retirement celebration appeared in the Indiana Lawyer.
