IU McKinney Alumna Competes in Endurance Race
08/06/2019
A recent graduate of IU McKinney competed in an inaugural Tough Mudder race in Columbus August 4. Brittney Newland, '14, an associate with Voyles Vaiana Lukemeyer Baldwin & Webb, was part of a team that took part in the event. A story about the team's preparation, and how it all went, appeared in The Republic.
The two-day race featured an 8-mile course with 25 obstacles at Cereland Park.
In the preview piece, Newland said that she hadn't competed in such an event previously, and in fact had only recently completed her first half-marathon. "I hated every minute of that," she said of the event. Thinking of the upcoming Tough Mudder, "I think it's just one of those things that you don't know how you're going to do until you're excited to push yourself to see how much you can overcome."
Newland worked as a Pretrial Release Probation Officer for Bartholomew County Court Services before beginning law school at IU McKinney. She worked as a law clerk for Jim Voyles, '68, and Jennifer Lukemeyer, while completing her legal education.
In the photo, Newland is second from the right with her teammates.
