IU McKinney Alumni Honored with Indiana State Bar Association Awards

Five alumni of the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law will be honored during the Indiana State Bar Association's annual awards reception on August 29. In addition, 11 alumni will receive the Golden Careerist Award in recognition of their 50 years in practice.
Julie Blackwell Gelanis, '78, will receive the David Hamacher Public Service Award. Presented by the Appellate Practice Section, the award recognized high ethical standards and service to the community.
Colin Flora, '11, will be presented with the Harrison Legal Writing Award, presented to the top article published in Res Gestae over the previous two years. Flora's article is titled, "When a Bookshelf is More than a Bookshelf: Sentimental Damages in Indiana." It was published in October 2018.
Emily Angel, '12, will receive the Honorable Viola Taliaferro Award, presented by the Children's Rights Committee for an individual who best exemplified the judge's courageous leadership in addressing the unmet legal needs of children and raising awareness of this issue. Angel is the Supervising Attorney at Kid's Voice of Indiana.
Adam Ira, '14, will receive the Outstanding Young Lawyer award, presented by the Young Lawyers Section to the attorney who exemplified the virtues embodied in the oath required of all who are admitted to the Indiana bar.
Alan Mills, '82, will be presented with the Rabb Emison Award by the Diversity Committee. This honor goes to the person who demonstrates a commitment to promoting diversity and equality in the legal profession and in the ISBA's membership.
Golden Careerist Awards, for 50 years of service in the legal profession, will be given to the following:
