Professor Schumm Discusses Potential Reappointment of Chief Justice Rush on WFYI
08/21/2019
The Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission decides who will serve as the Supreme Court's chief justice. Professor Joel Schumm, '98, told WFYI that the current court leader, Chief Justice Loretta Rush, is likely to be reappointed to the job.
Every five years, the commission, made up of three gubernatorial appointees and three members named by Indiana's attorneys, meets to select a chief justice among the members of the Supreme Court. Professor Schumm believes the commission will reappoint Chief Justice Rush to the position.
"And I’d be very surprised if anyone else on the court expresses interest in wanting the job," Professor Schumm said in the story. "She’s been doing a terrific job, so I would expect her to be unanimously reappointed.”
Professor Schumm is a magna cum laude graduate of IU McKinney who directs the Appellate Clinic and the Judicial Externship Program.
