08/22/2019
Around 100 members of the IU McKinney family, including incoming students, members of the faculty, and staff, gathered for an afternoon of volunteer work at Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. Students met in the atrium at Inlow Hall for lunch, and then traveled to the food bank to get to work.
Gleaners' mission is to lead the fight against hunger in central and southeast Indiana by collecting, storing, and distributing food to those in need. They work with approximately 210 agencies in 21 counties.
IU McKinney students, seen in the photo outside the law school prior to their afternoon volunteer session, divided into teams to work at Gleaners. The students who worked as pickers fulfilled 22 orders on multiple pallets, which would be distributed to Gleaners' partner agencies. The students, faculty, and staff who worked in production sorted 11,378 pounds of food, for 9482 meals.
