11/15/2019
Professor Ross Silverman delivered an invited presentation on vaccinations during the Sixth National Cancer Institute Cancer Centers HPV Vaccination Summit in Dallas, Texas. He also will moderate and take part in a discussion on the IUPUI campus after the reading of a new play about substance abuse and end-of-life decisions.
Professor Silverman was invited to present at the Summit on November 15. His topic was "The Law, Ethics, and Politics of Adolescent Consent to Vaccination," which is based in part upon his recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine, "Vaccination over Parental Objection - Should adolescents be allowed to consent to receiving vaccines?"
Professor Silverman has been part of the effort to bring the play to the IUPUI campus for a free, staged reading on November 20. The work, "The Spectrum of Letting Go," will also feature a talk back session after the reading, which he will participate in and moderate. Tickets to the free event at Emerson Hall at 6 p.m. are available at Eventbrite. Master of Public Health student Madison Weintraudt also will be part of the panel discussion. The performance is sponsored by the IU Fairbanks School of Public Health, IUPUI Medical Humanities and Health Studies Program, IU School of Medicine, and the IUPUI Arts & Humanities Institute.
Professor Silverman is a Professor of Public Health and Law and IU McKinney. He also is a professor of health policy and management at the IU Fairbanks School of Public Health in Indianapolis.
