IU McKinney M.J. Student Natalie Mendez Leads IUPUI Multicultural Greek Council
12/05/2019
Culturally based Greek-letter organizations have been growing on the IUPUI campus for more than a decade, and now they have a council that one IU McKinney student is leading.
Natalie Mendez, a student in the Master of Jurisprudence program at IU McKinney, serves as the president of the new Multicultural Greek Council at IUPUI. Mendez also is a member of Sigma Psi Zeta sorority. The four multicultural Greek-letter groups met during Summer 2019, building a constitution for the council. After gaining approval that made them an official campus organization, they voted on an executive board and elected Mendez, in the photo at left, as their founding president.
A story about the new organization appears in the news portion of Indiana University's website.
"This has given us a platform for our voices to be heard and has created unity among the four culturally based Greek groups," Mendez said in the story. "We have gained a sense of belonging on campus that we didn't have before. We are no longer on our own and have a council to fall back on and that will support us in programming, recruitment and publicity."9
