IU McKinney Law Faculty Discuss Shifting Landscape of Coronavirus
01/30/2020
The latest episode of This Week in Health Law, hosted by Professor Nicolas Terry, the Hall Render Professor of Law at IU McKinney School of Law and executive director of the Hall Center for Law and Health, takes a deep dive into the 2019-nCoV or Wuhan Coronavirus.
In the podcast, Professor Terry notes that the virus is a “daily shifting landscape,” with newly reported cases in several countries outside of China and varied government responses.
Guests on the episode include Ross Silverman, Professor of Public Health Law at IU McKinney and Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI, and Alexandra Phelan, a member of the Center for Global Health Science and Security and a Faculty Research Instructor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Georgetown University. She also holds an appointment as Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center.
The discussion centered on both the public health response and lessons on how healthcare systems respond to a virus about which scientists and public officials are still learning.
Professor Terry’s recent scholarship has dealt with health privacy, mobile health, the Internet of Things, Big Data, AI, and the opioid overdose epidemic. Currently, he is serving on Indiana University’s Grand Challenges Scientific Leadership Team, working on the addictions crisis and is the PI on addictions law and policy Grand Challenge grants. He hosts “The Week in Health Law” podcast at TWIHL.com, and he is @nicolasterry on twitter.
