Experiential Learning Fair Offers Networking, Learning Opportunities to Students
02/10/2020
IU McKinney's Experiential Learning Fair offered students an opportunity to network with members of the Indianapolis-area legal community, many of whom act as placement supervisors for students who serve in externships. The event took place January 28 at Inlow Hall.
During the event, students learned more about the courses that meet the 6-credit hour experiential learning requirement either through externships, clinics, or simulation courses. More than 70 supervising attorneys representing over 40 different experiential learning placements were on hand for students to meet. Areas of practice included courts, criminal law, corporate counsel, health law, intellectual property, not-for-profits, government and state agencies, and sports law.
Supervising attorneys were able to attend a special CLE program on "Ethics and Externships" prior to the event. Discussants were moderated by Professor Cynthia Baker, Director of Experiential Learning and Director of the Program on Law and State Government. She was joined by Edye Edens, '08, Program Director for the Hall Center for Law and Health Externship Program; Dale Pennycuff, '17, Counsel for the Indiana Horse Racing Commission; and James Strickland, '18, Law Clerk to Justice Mark Massa, '89, of the Indiana Supreme Court.
