No. You're not seeing things. IU McKinney students selected the exact same winners for outstanding professors and administration members for the second year. The honorees were announced February 15 during the annual Barrister's Ball, which took place at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in downtown Indianapolis.
The Black Cane for most outstanding professor went to Professor Lahny Silva, making this the third time she has been so honored. She received the Black Cane in 2016, and 2019. Professor Silva also was honored with the Red Cane in 2013. She joined the faculty at IU McKinney in 2011, and is a Dean's Fellow. She was the William H. Hastie Fellow at the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison, where she received her LL.M. She received her juris doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law, and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston University. In the photo, Professor Silva hugs 2L Bre Robinson.
The Red Cane for most outstanding professor who has been with the law school for less than three years was presented for the third year in a row to Visiting Professor Aila Hoss. Prior to coming to IU McKinney, Professor Hoss served as a staff attorney at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Public Health Law Program. Her research explores topics in public health law, health policy development, and the impact of federal Indian law and Tribal law on health outcomes. In the photo is Professor Hoss with her cane.
The White Cane for most outstanding administrative staff member was given, again, to Julie Davis, Associate Director for Student Affairs. She joined the law school in 2012, and moved into her role in the Office of Student Affairs in 2017. In this role, Davis is responsible for advising, programming, and services that support the academic, personal, and professional development of students. She also serves as an academic advisor for students pursuing graduate certificates and joint-degrees. She earned a B.S. from Indiana University, Indianapolis and a M.S.M. from Indiana Wesleyan University. In the photo, Davis is with 3L Adam Meredith.
