Julia Blackwell Gelinas Retires from Frost Brown Todd

Julia Blackwell Gelinas, ’78, retired in February 2020 after serving over 40 years at the law firm Frost Brown Todd. The firm was known as Locke Reynolds when Gelinas joined. She was its first woman lawyer, and the first woman to be named partner. A story about her career and the reaction to news of her retirement appears in the Indiana Lawyer.
After completing her legal education at IU McKinney, Gelinas worked as a law clerk at the Indiana Supreme Court, where she was the only woman clerk. After a year in this role, she moved into private practice.
Gelinas served on the IU McKinney Alumni Board, and was its president from 1992 to 1994.
