Professor Mohapatra Featured in Chronicle of Higher Ed Story about Gender and COVID-19 Crisis
06/01/2020
Amid the COVID-19 crisis, do female faculty bear a unique burden?
Seema Mohapatra, Associate Professor of Law and Dean’s Fellow at IU McKinney, was featured in an article, “Being a Woman in Academe Has Its Challenges. A Global Pandemic? Not Helping,” addressing the issue in the Chronicle for Higher Education.
In addition to sharing her own observations about how women may be more invested in creating a feeling of normalcy for children in the pandemic, she also shared a potentially valuable strategy for working at home with two teenage children: “Occasionally she'd put a chair outside her closed door so they wouldn’t walk in during video chats or phone calls,” the Chronicle reported.
Professor Mohapatra is an expert in the areas of health care law, public health law, bioethics, torts, and international health and family law. Her research interests include the intersection of biosciences and the law, assisted reproduction and surrogacy, international family and health law, health care disparities in the United States, and informed consent.
