06/11/2020
IU McKinney’s Assistant Director of Student Recruitment Lauren Peña, ’13, has been named to the sixth round of the Next Generation 2.0 leadership development program at IUPUI. She is the third member of the law school family to take part in the program, which was created by Dean-designate Karen E. Bravo and Vice Chancellor for Faculty Diversity and Inclusion Gina Sanchez Gibau.
Peña has served on IU McKinney’s diversity committee, admissions committee, and over a dozen hiring committees. On the IUPUI campus, she has taken part in several leadership experiences, including the IUPUI Data Inquiry Group, the Graduate Recruiting Salesforce Taskforce, and she presented at the IUPUI Graduate Recruitment Conference. Outside of her leadership activities, she has lectured in several educational capacities, served as a Class Agent for the IU McKinney Class of 2013, and co-published scholarly articles with faculty members. Additionally, Lauren serves the Indianapolis community as board secretary for ArtSpeak, Inc. and as a board member for accessAbility, Inc.
The cohort will begin with an orientation in August and then start a nine-month curriculum in September that focuses on developing leadership skills and understanding contemporary issues in higher education. Participants will also have the opportunity to identify, plan and implement a capstone project, either individually or in a group, that responds to an identified need of their department, the IUPUI campus or the Indianapolis community.
Professor Yvonne Dutton was in the third cohort of the program during the 2017-2018 academic year, and Professor Shawn Boyne, who is the Director of Academic Quality and Undergraduate Education at Iowa State University, was part of the first cohort during the 2015-2016 academic year.
