Professor Hill Publishes Latest Book
06/23/2020
Professor John Hill’s latest book has been published by Cambridge University Press. Titled, The Prophet of Modern Constitutional Liberalism: John Stuart Mill and the Supreme Court, the work explores the role this father of modern liberalism has played in America’s constitutional tradition.
“So many of our constitutional ideas come from him – the right to privacy, bold protection for freedom of expression and his feminism,” Professor Hill said. “On Liberty (1859) is his most influential work but his last book, The Subjection of Women, 1869, was way ahead of its time.” Professor Hill’s book is for lawyers who want to understand the intellectual origins of modern constitutional rights.
Professor Hill holds a J.D. and a doctorate in philosophy, both of which he received from Georgetown University. He is a professor of law and a Grimes Fellow at IU McKinney, where he teaches constitutional law, civil procedure, torts, jurisprudence and ethical and legal issues at the end of life. He also serves as an adjunct professor of philosophy in the Department of Philosophy at IUPUI.
