Stephen Worth, ’04, Associate General Counsel and Head of Legal for Amazon Music, was selected by Billboard magazine as one of the top music lawyers in the country.
Worth, who grew up in Rushville, Indiana and graduated from IU Bloomington with a B.A. in economics in 2001, joined Amazon in 2009. Worth and his team support Amazon’s physical and digital distribution of music globally, including vinyl and CDs, Amazon Music Free, Amazon Music Prime and Amazon Unlimited.
Prior to joining Amazon to support Kindle Direct Publishing and Amazon Publishing, Worth was an attorney with Sidley Austin in Chicago. He clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit in Santa Fe, New Mexico, after law school.
As a 1L at IU McKinney, Worth recalls enjoying torts class taught by Andrew R. Klein, Paul E. Beam Professor of Law. “His passion for teaching was contagious,” Worth said. “Later, I loved the energy that the late Professor Jegen brought to the classroom. I took every class he taught.”
Worth was editor-in-chief of the Indiana Law Review, Volume 37. “My experience as editor-in-chief taught me a lot about project management and leadership.”
Billboard notes that Amazon Music joined with other streaming companies to support the COVID-19 Relief Fund created by MusiCares and the Recording Academy and quotes Worth, “I’ve enjoyed providing pro bono representation to songwriters, artists and authors through Amazon’s work with Washington Lawyers for the Arts.”
