Winners of 2020 Staton Intramural Moot Court Named at IU McKinney

Victoria Wilkinson and Cassidy Segura Clouse were declared the winners of the Honorable Robert H. Staton Intramural Moot Court Competition. The runners-up were Abigail Jessup and Ricki Eisenhut. The championship round took place in a virtual format on November 2.
Cassidy Segura Clouse captured the Christopher M. Maine Advocacy Award, which is awarded to the best oralist in the Staton Competition’s championship round.
Rachel Galullo won the Mitzi H. Martin Moot Court Award, which is awarded to the best oralist in the Staton Competition’s preliminary rounds.
Sloan Schafer won the Best Brief Award, which is awarded to the writer of the brief that received the highest score from the competition’s brief judges.
Attorneys Jon Pactor, ’76, and Susan Shan were awarded the Friend of the Court Award for their service as judges during the Staton Competition.
The competition is named for the late Indiana Court of Appeals Judge Robert H. Staton, ’55. Judge Staton served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II, achieving the rank of major. After the war, he completed his undergraduate studies at Indiana University, and then received his law degree from IU McKinney. Judge Staton was elected to what was then known as the Appellate Court of Indiana in 1970, the last year elections took place for the position. He served until March 2000 and wrote more than 3,000 majority opinions. He served as a senior judge until 2005. Judge Staton passed away in 2011.
