Professor Katz Elected President of IUPUI Jewish Faculty and Staff Council
01/19/2021
Professor Robert Katz has been elected president of the IUPUI Jewish Faculty and Staff Council (JFSC). The council works to connect, support, and represent Jewish faculty and staff on campus, and to help educate the campus community about Jewish culture, practices, history, traditions, and the Jewish experience.
JFSC will host the IUPUI campus’s Holocaust Remembrance Program, which will take place in a virtual format January 27 at noon. It will feature a discussion of Holocaust narratives with Jamie Levine-Daniel, Assistant Professor at O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, and Jeremy Price, Assistant Professor at the IUPUI School of Education. They will discuss the contemporary role of Holocaust narratives, what we do with them today, why they matter, and the work our communities need to do as the Holocaust survivor population ages. The program will also include remarks by Dr. Karen Dace, IUPUI Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and musical performances by Adam Shapiro, who played the Rabbi in Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish and is an Indiana native. The gathering will culminate in a memorial candle lighting by community leaders and IUPUI students, faculty, and staff. Registration is required and open to anyone who would like to attend.
