01/29/2021
Suvd Tuul, LL.M., ‘16, has gone a long way since earning her Master of Laws degree from IU McKinney. She pursued an optional practical training with a law firm in Washington, D.C., after graduating, then took the New York bar a couple of years later. Tuul, a native of Mongolia, is now back home working at a leading law firm.
“I can proudly say that my professional life as a lawyer and my perception as a human have improved enormously since I attended IU McKinney. which I like to call my IU family,” Tuul said. “As an international student, I never felt helpless or lost because I had many sources to get help either with study, life, or career-wise.”
Tuul studied the Corporate and Commercial Law track for her LL.M. After completing her legal education, she undertook an optional practical training with Boltakke Law Group, an immigration law firm in Washington, D.C. She took the New York bar exam in 2018 and was admitted to the bar there a year later. She cites the encouragement she received from the IU McKinney family as critical to her success.
“It was never in my plan to take the bar exam in the U.S. as if English was my mother tongue,” Tuul said. “However, the student affairs office, professors, and many other people advised and encouraged me to take it. Thanks to them, I passed it and now I am a New York admitted attorney.”
A busy student while at IU McKinney, Tuul completed an externship with the Indiana Supreme Court and was a member of the Willem C. Vis International Arbitration Moot team as a researcher.
Tuul currently works at DB>S LLP, a leading law firm in Mongolia. “When I returned to my home country after receiving my LL.M. degree, my New York license, and work experiences in U.S.A., I felt fully equipped and was ready to rock it,” Tuul said. “Currently, I am working as an associate for one of the leading firms in Mongolia. I like to wear my IU McKinney hoodie to embrace my school.”
