04/15/2021
Robert T. Grand, ’82, and Melody Grand were presented with the IUPUI Spirit of Philanthropy Award during a virtual ceremony on April 13.
The Grands were recognized for having loyally supported the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law and demonstrating the value of giving back to one’s alma mater.
Bob Grand is a member of the law school’s Board of Visitors. The couple’s recent gifts have focused on an endowed chair and a memorial scholarship, created to recognize the excellence of the faculty and to help students who face financial challenges.
Bob graduated from Wabash College in 1978 and IU McKinney Law in 1982. Melody graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 1978 with a degree in biological sciences. Bob is the firm managing partner of Barnes & Thornburg and concentrates his practice in the areas of public finance and governmental regulation.
The Best Lawyers in America has recognized Bob every year since 2005, and he was named Lawyer of the Year in 2016 for his work in government relations practice and municipal law.
Since 1989, the IUPUI campus has come together for the Spirit of Philanthropy Awards Ceremony. This event honors the individuals, corporations, and foundations that have contributed to our programs through gifts and voluntary services. With this recognition, we are reminded how important philanthropy and volunteerism are to our campus, community, and civic lives.
The awards ceremony included a welcome from student emcee and IU McKinney Law 1L student Lance Howard. He is a 2020 graduate of the IUPUI School of Science.
