Professor Magliocca Discusses Upcoming Book in Commemoration of Constitution Day

Professor Gerard Magliocca talked about the book he is currently writing on the life of Bushrod Washington during an event to celebrate Constitution Day. The lecture took place on September 14 in the Wynne Courtroom at Inlow Hall. Professor Magliocca’s lecture is available for online viewing.
Bushrod Washington served as a justice on the United States Supreme Court from 1798 to 1829 and had a close personal and professional relationship with Chief Justice John Marshall. Bushrod Washington also was George Washington’s nephew and served in the Continental Army near the end of the American Revolution. Professor Magliocca was named to the 2019-2020 class of fellows for the Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington at Mount Vernon. He conducted research for his book, “Washington’s Heir: The Life of Justice Bushrod Washington.” The work is expected to be published in Fall 2022.

Professor Magliocca is a Samuel R. Rosen Professor of Law at IU McKinney. He is the author of four books, the latest of which, The Heart of the Constitution: How the Bill of Rights Became the Bill of Rights, was published by Oxford University Press in 2018. He also is the author of over 20 articles on constitutional law and intellectual property.
