Professor Emmert Comments on Need for Trade Law Specialists for LL.M. Guide
09/20/2021
Companies need lawyers who know trade law during this climate where retaliatory tariffs and protectionist tactics abound. Lawyers who know this area of law can help mitigate the negative impact of these measures on companies. IU McKinney’s Master of Laws program offers a World Trade Law track, which is directed by Professor Frank Emmert. He discussed the need for trade law specialists with a reporter for LL.M. Guide.
“Every year, it is becoming clearer that pretty much all business has become international, and that even small and medium size firms cannot thrive anymore unless they are able to make use of international opportunities,” Professor Emmert said in the story. IU McKinney’s LL.M. in World Trade Law is part of a partnership with World Trade Center Indianapolis. Students in the track must complete a six-month internship with WTC Indy. During the internship, students work with clients and handle trade cases from start to finish. Students frequently work with trade lawyers, business executives, government regulators, and other contacts.
Professor Emmert is the John S. Grimes Professor of Law and Director of the Center for International and Comparative Law at IU McKinney.
