HGTV Designer Karen E Laine, '92, Talks Art, Law, and Business
02/08/2022
After a brief hiatus, IUPUI's Jordan H. and Joan R. Leibman Lecture, a collaboration of the Herron School of Art and Design, the Kelley School of Business, and the Robert H. McKinney School of Law, is returning.
Karen E Laine, an Indianapolis-based attorney and designer on HGTV's mother-daughter home remodeling series "Good Bones," will deliver the 2021-22 Leibman Lecture on Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Eskenazi Hall's Basile Auditorium. E Laine will discuss her career at the intersection of business, law, and design with Joseph Mella, director and curator of the Herron Galleries.
E Laine graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from the IU McKinney School of Law in 1992 and has worked as a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney throughout her legal career. She then went into the home renovation business, appearing on "Good Bones" with her daughter Mina. E Laine creates one-of-a-kind works of art and is involved in the overall design process of "Good Bones," which is now in its seventh season.
This event is free and open to the public, and there will be a reception following the lecture. Masks are required in indoor public spaces for the protection of the IU community and its visitors.
For those who want to watch from home, E Laine's talk will be streamed live on Zoom and Facebook.com/HerronGalleries. Visit go.iu.edu/4fjD to preregister via Zoom.
The Jordan H. and Joan R. Leibman Lecture Series was established in 2004 to investigate issues concerning the legal and business environment of the arts, with topics ranging from the documentary "The Art of The Steal" to a presentation by the U.S. Department of Treasury on engraving practices.
