Professor Magliocca Discusses North Carolina Voter Challenge on NPR
02/08/2022
Professor Gerard Magliocca was a guest on All Things Considered, talking about the challenge being raised by voters in North Carolina that aims to disqualify Republican Congressman Madison Cawthorn from being reelected. He spoke with NPR host Michele Martin.
Voters are challenging Congressman Cawthorn’s reelection bid on the grounds he or his office coordinated with the organizers of the January 6, 2021, attack on the United States Capitol. The voters have enlisted Professor Magliocca to serve as an expert witness in their case. The complaint, filed with the North Carolina State Board of Elections, charges Cawthorn is ineligible for public office under Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment, known as the Disqualification Clause, to the U.S. Constitution.
Professor Magliocca is a Samuel R. Rosen Professor of Law at IU McKinney. He is the author of five books, the latest of which, Washington’s Heir: The Life of Bushrod Washington, is slated to be published by Oxford University Press in 2022. He also is the author of over 20 articles on constitutional law and intellectual property.
