Three with IU McKinney Ties Publish Article on DACA

Professor David Nguyen, ’06; Master of Jurisprudence student Ronald Cunningham; and Assistant for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion Tevin Byers wrote an article published in West’s Education Law Reporter.
The piece, “Estrada v. Becker: Defining ‘Legal Presence’ and Implications for DACA Students,” covers the legal barriers undocumented students face as they pursue educational opportunities. It examines federal and state laws and policies that impact higher education access with particular focus on DACA recipients, including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security definition of “legal presence” and the ruling in Estrada v. Becker.
Professor Nguyen teaches in the School of Education at IUPUI. Cunningham is a dual-degree student in the M.J./Ph.D. program in Urban Education Studies. Byers pursuing a Ph.D. in Urban Education Studies in IUPUI School of Education with an emphasis in Law, Policy, and Advocacy.
