Alex Van Gorp, '16, Named General Counsel at Damien Center

The Damien Center has named Alex Van Gorp, ’16, its general counsel and advocacy director. Previously, Van Gorp was staff attorney and ethics officer at the Indiana Department of Health.
Van Gorp received IU McKinney’s John Paul Berlon Award in 2016 for contributing the most hours of pro bono services during his law school career. He primarily worked with the Indiana Civil Rights Commission and the Indianapolis Bar Association. He also successfully argued for a reversal of a juvenile delinquency adjudication as a student in Professor Joel Schumm’s Appellate Clinic. In addition, Van Gorp was a part of the Indiana State Bar Association’s Leadership Development Academy class for 2020.
Damien Center is the state’s oldest and largest AIDS service organization. Founded in 1987, it serves more than 4,000 people affected and infected by HIV/AIDS through a comprehensive, innovative approach to HIV care and prevention.
