Professor Nedeff Discusses Shooting Case with WISH TV
A misspelling of a defendant’s name led to him being out on bond when he should have remained in the Marion County jail. The defendant was then accused of shooting an Indianapolis police officer. Professor Novella Nedeff, ’83, talked about the case with WISH-TV.
Professor Nedeff said in the story that incidents like these, where someone is released from custody due to a spelling error, are rare. A former Marion County public defender, she said arresting officers routinely check identifying information like fingerprints and prior criminal history.
Professor Nedeff is a clinical professor of law and teaches in the Criminal Defense Clinic.
