Jimmie McMillian, '02, Guest on Freedom Forum Podcast

Jimmie McMillian, ’02, is a guest on the IBJ podcast, The Freedom Forum, which is hosted by Angela Freeman, ’12. Freeman began the podcast in summer 2021.
In the episode, McMillian talks about everything from his path to law school, leaving law firm life to become senior legal counsel at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and chief diversity officer for Penske Entertainment Corp., to finding happiness at work and at home. McMillian has served as president of the Indianapolis Bar Association. He was named to the 2018 list of Most Influential Black Lawyers by Savoy Magazine. IU McKinney honored him with its Distinguished Alumni Award in 2017, and he received the Maynard K. Hine Medal for service to the IUPUI campus in 2013. Among other honors, he has received the National Bar Association’s Presidential Award in 2007, Barnes & Thornburg’s Pro Bono Attorney of the Year award during his time at the firm, and the Honorable Carr L. Darden Leadership Award. He was president of the law school’s alumni association in 2011-2012 and served as president of the Neal-Marshall Indiana University Alumni Association in 2013. Freeman is a member of Barnes & Thornburg’s Intellectual Property Department and Life Sciences practice group, where she is instrumental in procuring IP rights in the U.S. and worldwide for client inventions. She is the first Black president of the not-for-profit Women & Hi Tech.
