Meet an IU McKinney Donor: Shelley M. Jackson, '07
06/06/2022
Shelley M. Jackson, ’07, is a partner at Krieg DeVault, where she represents IU McKinney as a Law Firm Campaign chair. As a student, she was the recipient of the Lefstein Legacy Scholarship, and she’s been a dedicated donor to that scholarship fund as well as the McKinney Law Fund. Here’s what she had to say about her ongoing connection to IU McKinney:
What was your path to law school like?
Prior to law school, I was a high school English teacher. Deciding to attend law school as a non-traditional student was a significant family decision, as we had three- and five-year-old sons (now 20 and 22!). At first, I knew almost no one in the legal profession, but I quickly found my support system within the IU McKinney and Indianapolis legal communities.
Describe your practice at Krieg DeVault.
I am a partner in Krieg DeVault’s Health Care and Labor and Employment practice groups. My practice is eclectic; one day I’m working with a physician or pharmacy to navigate a health care compliance issue, and the next I’m helping a small business build compliant and sustainable HR policies to support continued growth and innovation. I enjoy the opportunity to help clients navigate challenging times and achieve their highest aspirations.
Why do you make annual gifts to the law school?
I give to IU McKinney because the journey through law school can be challenging. Offering financial support does more than provide dollars; it sends a message of encouragement. I found encouragement while I was in law school, and I hope to encourage others through my involvement with IU McKinney.
