Philip Aka Named Fulbright Specialist, Will Work in Sierra Leone

Philip Aka, LL.M. ’08; S.J.D. ’16, has been named a Fulbright specialist and will work in Sierra Leone.
Aka will work with the legal department at the Campaign for Human Rights and Development International in Freetown, Sierra Leone’s capital. The organization focuses on issues relating to human rights and social justice. He will work with the agency to review and simplify the country’s existing electoral laws, highlighting laws that are contradictory and need change. Aka also will help produce a booklet on the country’s election laws and help the agency produce a training manual on human rights monitoring and documentation during elections. Aka will be in Sierre Leone from November 4 through December 6, 2022.
Aka served as dean of the law faculty at the International University of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2018 to 2020 and then taught as a visiting professor at Southern University School of Law in Carbondale, Illinois. In addition, he has completed six books:
