Hall Center Welcomes Legal Scholar Ruqaiijah Yearby to Annual MMK Award Lecture

The IU McKinney School of Law’s Hall Center for Law and Health will present legal scholar Ruqaiijah Yearby with the McDonald-Merrill-Ketcham Award at the annual event lecture on Friday, February 24.
In her lecture, “Structural Racism in Law and Medicine: The Root Cause of Health Inequities,” Yearby will discuss how the adoption of the health justice framework can be used to eradicate racism and redress harm.
Yearby is co-founder and faculty affiliate at The Institute for Healing Justice & Equity at the Moritz College of Law, The Ohio State University. She is a renowned expert in racial disparities in health care, the political economy of health care, social justice in medical research, and has dedicated her career to improving the lives of vulnerable populations by addressing the lack of equal access to quality health care.
In addition to the award lecture, event presenters and topics include:
- Shawneequa Callier, associate professor, George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, “Race, Clinical Algorithms, and Health Justice”
- Aila Hoss, associate professor of law, IU McKinney School of Law, “The Structural Violence of Federal Indian Law”
- Dr. Tiffany Kyser, associate director, The Great Lakes Equity Center, “Intentionally Centering Civil Rights in Examining School Conditions Impacting Students’ Mental Health”
The annual MMK Lectureship and Award is supported by a bequest to the IU McKinney School of Law and the Indiana University School of Medicine. This lecture and award bring leading scholars and policy makers in the fields of law and medicine to the Indianapolis campus for the benefit of students, faculty, the bar, and the medical community.
This is an in-person event and will not be live streamed. The program will be offered for 2.0 hours Traditional Indiana CLE credit and CEU Certificates are available for Indiana behavioral health and human services providers. Register at IU McKinney's website.
