Professor Katz Helps Convene Second Annual Law vs. Antisemitism Conference
04/04/2023
Professor Robert Katz co-organized the Second Annual Law vs. Antisemitism Conference at Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon, on March 26-27.
The conference was a follow-up to the successful inaugural Law vs. Antisemitism Conference that Professor Katz co-organized at IU McKinney on March 14-15, 2022. The Lewis and Clark conference boasted more than 60 attendees and 34 presenters. The conference addressed several critical topics, including antisemitism on campus, laws regulating Holocaust denial, and RFRA challenges to abortion bans brought by Jewish women.
During the conference, Professor Katz gave a presentation on historic anti-Jewish quotas in college admissions and Jewish perspectives on affirmative action. This presentation was based on a chapter in Antisemitism and the Law, his forthcoming casebook and the first of its kind on the subject. Professor Katz hopes that his casebook will be adopted for law courses on antisemitism and the law across the United States. At the conference, Professor Katz also introduced keynote speaker Steve Freeman, ADL Vice President of Civil Rights and Director of Legal Affairs. Freeman is the nation's foremost litigator on matters related to antisemitism.
