Professor Edwards Appointed to Smithsonian Council

Professor George Edwards has been appointed to the Smithsonian Institution Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage Advisory Council. The center is a research and educational unit of the Smithsonian Institution. It promotes promote greater understanding and sustainability of cultural heritage across the United States and around the world through research, education, and community engagement.
“It is an honor to be appointed to the Smithsonian Institution Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage Advisory Council,” Professor Edwards said. “This Smithsonian Institution research center does very important work that touches all of us, in the United States and overseas.” The center’s work fits in with the work he does at IU McKinney, Professor Edwards said. “I have long focused on promoting and protecting human rights, under international and domestic law. Our IU McKinney Program in International Human Rights Law and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage recognize that Individuals and groups have internationally recognized rights related to cultural heritage.”
