Alex Van Gorp Named to Association of Corporate Counsel Top Ten 30-somethings

Alex Van Gorp, J.D. ’16, was named to the Association of Corporate Counsel’s list of Top Ten 30-Somethings for 2023. The honorees were announced during the group’s annual Corporate Counsel University which concluded June 30.
Van Gorp is general counsel and advocacy director for the Damien Center in Indianapolis, a role in which he has served since early 2022. Previously, he was staff attorney and ethics officer at the Indiana Department of Health.
Van Gorp received IU McKinney’s John Paul Berlon Award in 2016 for contributing the most hours of pro bono services during his law school career. He primarily worked with the Indiana Civil Rights Commission and the Indianapolis Bar Association. He also successfully argued for a reversal of a juvenile delinquency adjudication as a student in Professor Joel Schumm’s Appellate Clinic. In addition, Van Gorp was a part of the Indiana State Bar Association’s Leadership Development Academy class for 2020.
Damien Center is the state’s oldest and largest AIDS service organization. Founded in 1987, it serves more than 4,000 people affected and infected by HIV/AIDS through a comprehensive, innovative approach to HIV care and prevention.
At the event, Van Gorp caught up with fellow IU McKinney alumni Kristin Caldwell, J.D. ’11, who is general counsel at LaCalle Group; and Pervin Taleyarkhan, J.D. ’13, who is legal counsel at Whirlpool Corp. Taleyarkhan was named to the Top Ten 30-Somethings list in 2022.
