IU McKinney Alumni Inducted into Presidents Circle
09/28/2023
Indiana University honored two IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law alumni for their philanthropic leadership with membership in the Presidents Circle during special ceremonies on September 8 in Indianapolis.
Established in 1992, the Presidents Circle honors Indiana University's most generous donors for the significant impact of their gifts to IU.
IU McKinney Law alumni honored were:
David C. and Margaret L. Campbell
Dave and Peggy Campbell are longtime donors to the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law. They met while pursuing their undergraduate education at Indiana State University. Dave went on to graduate summa cum laude from IU McKinney Law in 1974. He practiced law for many years at Bingham, Summers, Welsh & Spilman (now Dentons Greenebaum Doll) in Indianapolis. Dave is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers (Ret.) and has served in numerous volunteer roles throughout the state, including the Board of Trustees and the Foundation Board for Indiana State University, the Indianapolis Legal Aid Society, the Julian Center, and the Indianapolis Bar Association Pro Bono Committee.
Peggy was an educator for Indianapolis Public Schools and was a dedicated community volunteer. Their son, Andrew, graduated from IU McKinney Law in 2005. In an interest to help future IU McKinney Law students lessen the financial burden of a legal education, Dave and Peggy created the Campbell Scholarship for Public Interest at the school in 2021. The scholarship helps law students who are interested in pursuing a career in legal aid, public interest, or public service law.
James L. Kittle, Jr. and Sharon K. Kittle
Jim and Sharon Kittle’s generous support of Indiana University spans across many areas, including Athletics, the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law, and the Kelley School of Business.
Jim received a B.S. in Business from the IU Kelley School of Business in Bloomington in 1966. While a student, Jim was president of the senior class and participated in Sigma Alpha Epsilon, student government, and the student foundation. He then went on to receive his J.D. from IU McKinney Law in 1969.
Jim is now chairman of family-owned Kittle's Furniture which has been in business since 1932. Jim and his brother, John – a 1967 graduate of the IU Kelley School of Business – established the Clara Lee Kittle Endowment Scholarship in memory of their grandmother that supports IU McKinney Law students. Jim and John also established the Hazel Patterson Chattaway Scholarship at the Kelley School of Business.
