Justices from the Indiana Supreme Court participated in a recent panel discussion hosted by the Federalist Society chapter at IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Justices Geoffrey Slaughter, Mark Massa, J.D. ‘89, and Derek R. Molter (pictured) spoke at the event which took place in Inlow Hall on February 8.
Former Indiana Supreme Court Justice and current Professor of Practice at IU McKinney, Frank Sullivan, Jr., moderated the discussion, which touched on a wide range of topics. Sullivan asked the justices to share their views on Indiana’s method of selecting the highest judicial officers in the state, administrative aspects of serving on the Supreme Court, promulgating the rules of procedure, the differing degrees of transparency regarding reporting rules for the U.S. Supreme Court vs. the Indiana Supreme Court, and the potential impact of judicial recusals on the high court. Audience questions also included advice to law students preparing to graduate, recent landmark cases with an impact on Indiana, their individual legal philosophies, and more.
Professor John Hill, the Society’s faculty advisor, introduced Professor Sullivan and Federalist Society President Bryan Andrews who organized the event and thanked everyone for attending.
