Meet IU McKinney Student Richard Scully

Richard Scully is a 1L who is pursuing law as a second career.
Where are you from and what year are you in law school?
I currently reside in Logansport, Indiana, and I am a 1L.
Any lawyers in your family?
No, I am the first of my family to study law.
What made you decide you wanted to go to law school?
Law was always an interest of mine. My interest was increased in my previous career where I had some experience with labor relations, administrative law, and contract enforcement.
And what brought you to IU McKinney in particular?
I wanted to stay within the state and McKinney offers so much in terms of opportunities right outside the door, it seemed to be a natural fit.
What has your experience been like as a student at IU McKinney?
My experience has been excellent. My classmates are all incredibly intelligent and friendly and I have learned a lot from them. The staff is excellent and is invested in helping you succeed.
What’s been the biggest adjustment you’ve had to make in your life since you started law school?
Law school for me is really about time management. I have a lengthy commute so making sure I maximize my time has been the biggest adjustment.
What student groups have you been involved in?
Federalist Society as well as Law Students for Life.
