IU McKinney School of Law took part in a field test of the National Conference of Bar Examiners’ NextGen bar exam in January 2024. A total of 40 McKinney students and graduates participated.

“The field test was conducted to test questions the NCBE would like to use on the NextGen bar exam,” said Director of Academic and Bar Success Erin Engels, J.D. ’99. “We participated so we could survey our students to see if we are preparing them for the types of questions they will encounter if the Indiana Supreme Court adopts the NextGen bar.” Currently, 17 jurisdictions have adopted the NextGen bar exam, which will be first offered in July 2026.

IU McKinney was one of 88 institutions across 41 jurisdictions that administered new bar exam questions to more than 4,100 participants.
