06/27/2024
Professor Allison Martin has joined the IU McKinney decanal team as vice dean. Her new role begins July 1. She takes over for Vice Dean Cynthia Adams, J.D. ‘83, who is transitioning back to the faculty.
“I am deeply grateful to Vice Dean Adams for the dedication and excellence of her work on the decanal team,” said IU McKinney Dean Karen E. Bravo. “She joined the team during one of the most challenging periods in the world’s and law school's history and was essential to both our successful navigation of the challenges of the pandemic and our achievements over the past four years.”
Vice Dean Martin’s primary responsibility will focus on academic programs including responsibility for managing curriculum, scheduling, and faculty affairs, including adjunct faculty. She will also oversee IU McKinney’s online initiatives.
“I am grateful that professor, now Vice Dean Martin, has agree to join the decanal team,” Dean Bravo said. “Her primary focus will be on our school's academic programs, including responsibility for managing curriculum, scheduling, and faculty affairs. I look forward to our work together.”
Vice Dean Max Huffman will be the administration’s point person for the Office of Enrollment Management, Academic and Bar Success, Ruth Lilly Law Library, Institutional Data and Reporting, and for the planning of symposia, speakers, and other events at the law school, working closely with the Office of External Affairs. In addition, he will support the activities of the law school’s Office of Development.
Vice Dean Martin joined the faculty at IU McKinney in 2003. After law school, she clerked for a justice sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court and practiced civil litigation with a Chicago law firm and then with the Illinois Attorney General’s office. Her areas of practice included employment law, commercial litigation, bankruptcy, and civil rights litigation. In 1997, she began her teaching career at the University of Illinois College of Law, and then became director of legal writing at the University of Alabama School of Law. She has written articles and presented extensively in the areas of legal education, teaching, and legal writing. Her work has been recognized by national publications, including The National Law Journal, The ABA Journal, The American Lawyer, The Huffington Post, and The National Jurist. She is a contributing co-editor of the Indiana Pleading & Practice treatise. She has been the recipient of Indiana University’s Trustee’s Teaching Award in recognition of teaching excellence.
